Robert L. Stickles '39 
Growing up in Libertyville, Illinois, Bob attended Libertyville Township High School where he participated in football, basketball, and track.

He entered Lake Forest in 1935 and earned freshman numerals in baseball, basketball and football.  He went on to win three varsity letters in baseball, two in basketball and one in football.  Referred to as "Streaky" by his teammates, he captained the baseball team his senior year and played quarterback on the undefeated 1938 Forester football team.  As a sophomore on the basketball team he earned the Bill Emery Free Throw Trophy.  A history and economics major, Bob was president of the L.F. Club and a  member of Digamma Alpha Upsilon. 

Following graduation, he married Mary Virginia Marshall '39.  In 1941 he entered the U.S. Navy where he served in finance and supply.  He retired in 1945 with the rank of Captain.  He did graduate work at Harvard University, Roosevelt University, and Northwestern University.  Following his retirement from the Navy, he served as Controller of the City of Chicago Board of Education.
