Shelby Neill Repeats as Forester Athlete of the Week
Freshman set or tied four single-game school records on Saturday

Shelby Neill
LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Lake Forest College softball player Shelby Neill (Manitou Beach, Mich./Lenawee Christian) was named Forester Athlete of the Week Thursday (April 12) for her performance in the team’s doubleheader sweep of Illinois College the previous Saturday (April 7).

Neill, a freshman first baseman and catcher, batted 1-for-3 in the opener, an 8-4 Lake Forest victory. The Foresters out-slugged the Lady Blues 17-10 in game two, thanks in large part to Neill. She drove in a run with a double in the first inning, belted a grand slam in the second, doubled in two more runs in the third, hit another RBI double in the fifth, and singled in yet another run in the seventh. She set school records with nine RBI and 11 total bases in the contest and tied the marks for base hits and doubles in a game.

Neill, who was named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week on Monday and Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division III Player of the Week on Wednesday, is now leading the Foresters with a .442 batting average, 17 runs batted in, and a .721 slugging percentage.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Neill also earned the award last week.
