Lake Forest Drops Pair at North Central
Team falls to .500 on the season

Jenny Riddle batted 2-for-3 in game two of the doubleheader.
NAPERVILLE, IL - The Foresters softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at North Central College on Wednesday (April 13). The Cardinals won the opener 3-1 and game two 9-3 to raise their record on the year to 15-9. Lake Forest fell to 12-12-1.

North Central took the early lead in game one with a run in the bottom of the first inning.

The visitors tied the score in the top of the third when junior Melissa Wegner’s (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) two-out single drove in senior Hannah Starck (Aurora, IL/Aurora West) from third base. Starck had singled and stole second with one out and advanced to third on a passed ball during Wegner’s at bat.

The score remained 1-1 until three Cardinal doubles scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Freshman Kendra Grant (Bothell, WA/Bothell) allowed just two earned runs in the loss.

The Foresters grabbed an early advantage in the second game with a run in the top of the first inning. Sophomore Jenny Riddle (Bloomington, IL/Normal), who was 2-for-3 in the game, doubled in freshman Jessica Kirincich (Channahon, IL/Minooka) with the contest’s initial run. Kirincich reached base on a two-out walk.

The home team quickly erased the deficit with two runs in the bottom of the inning and added five more in the second to take a 7-1 lead.

Wegner walked, stole second, and scored on a Kirincich double in the top of the third. After North Central plated two more runs in the sixth, the Foresters closed out the scoring with one in the seventh. Sophomore Lisa Jeziorny (Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg) doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a single by senior Kristen Feeney (Brookfield, IL/Lyons Township).

Lake Forest will resume the Midwest Conference portion of its schedule with a doubleheader at home Saturday (April 16) afternoon at 1:00 against Monmouth College.
