Robyn Slater holds career school records for doubles, home runs, and RBI.
LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College softball team finally played its first home games of the 2003 season Wednesday (April 16), and celebrated with a doubleheader sweep of Carthage College. The Foresters won game one 4-2 and finished off the Lady Reds 10-2 in six innings in game two. Lake Forest's record improved to 14-4 while Carthage fell to 20-7.

The home team got on the scoreboard in the first inning of game one when sophomore second baseman Alissa Mildebrath's (Carol Stream, IL/West Chicago) one-out single bounced away from the right fielder and scored junior pitcher Nancy Findeisen (Beecher, IL/Beecher), who had reached on an error.

After Carthage singled three times in the top of the fifth inning to tie the score, the Foresters broke the game open in the sixth. Sophomore shortstop Tina Koludrovic (Darien, IL/Downers Grove South) singled to start the inning. With one out, senior third baseman Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL/Granite City) doubled for the second time in the game and 30th in her career, setting a new school record. Senior first baseman Shanon Joselane (Glendale Heights, IL/Glenbard East) then drove in both baserunners with a clutch single to left-center field and advanced all the way to third when the ball skipped past the center fielder. Freshman designated player Ashley Closson's (Murphysboro, IL/Murphysboro) base hit drove in Joselane with the Foresters' third run of the inning and fourth of the game.

The Lady Reds scored a run and loaded the bases in the seventh but Findeisen handled a ground ball to her right and threw to first for the last out. She finished the game with four strikeouts and just one base on balls. Her record for the year improved to 5-2 and her earned run average fell just slightly to 1.12.

After falling behind 1-0 early in game two, Lake Forest tallied four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Sophomore catcher Justeen Streich's (Arlington Heights, IL/Hersey) base hit drove in a pair and a single by freshman outfielder Melissa Peters (Buffalo Grove, IL/Stevenson) scored the other two.

After Carthage cut the lead to 4-2 in the top of the third, the Foresters strung together four straight hits in the bottom of the inning to score three and break the game open. Lake Forest scored two more in the fourth inning, highlighted by Slater's third double of the day. The game ended with one out in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double by Mildebrath.

Junior Leigh Anne Furgerson (Carmel, IN/Westfield) went the distance for her fourth consecutive win. The school's all-time leader in victories is now 6-2 on the season with a 0.59 ERA.

The Foresters will be back in action tomorrow (April 17) afternoon at 3:00 when they host Midwest Conference South Division-leading Monmouth College (15-10-1, 8-1 MWC).
