April 16, 2005 Contact: Mike Wajerski, SID Foresters Climb South Division Standings with Sweep of Monmouth The home team jumped out to an early lead in game one with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Sophomore Erin Watts (Evergreen Park, IL/Evergreen Park) doubled in two and later scored on a groundout. Junior Ashley Closson (Murphysboro, IL/Murphysboro), sophomore Lisa Jeziorny (Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg), and senior Hannah Starck (Aurora, IL/Aurora West) all singled in the inning and Closson scored the fourth run. Both teams scored in each of the next two innings. After Monmouth plated one in the top of the second, the Foresters got it back on Watts’s second home run of the season in the bottom of the frame. The Scots scored two in the top of the third and Lake Forest senior Alissa Mildebrath (Carol Stream, IL/West Chicago) singled in one in the bottom of the inning to give the Foresters a 6-3 advantage. Another four-run rally in the bottom of the fifth broke the game open. Watts’s second double of the game drove in three runners, including Mildebrath with the school record tying 102nd run of her career. The game ended in the sixth when Jeziorny’s first homer of the year gave the home team an eight-run lead. She, Watts, and Starck each had three hits in the game. Mildebrath, junior Melissa Wegner (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech), Watts, and Jeziorny scored twice and Watts drove in a career-high six runs. Closson struck out six batters and allowed just two earned runs and four base hits. She has won five straight decisions and is 6-5 on the season. Freshman pitcher Kendra Grant (Bothell, WA/Bothell) surrendered just one run and five base hits in game the second game and is now 4-3 this year. The Foresters grabbed an early lead again in game two with three runs in the top of the first inning. Wegner led off with a double and scored on a Watts single. Grant later drew a bases-loaded walk to drive in Watts. Jeziorny, who was 2-for-4 in the game and 5-for-8 on the day, singled in the third run. Monmouth scored its only run of the contest in the bottom of the third inning and the Foresters regained their three-run lead when Grant’s fifth-inning single drove in Watts, who was 3-for-4 once again. Lake Forest will begin a stretch of seven games in as many days with one contest at Trinity International University Monday (April 18) afternoon at 4:00. The team will also host the University of Chicago on Thursday (April 21) and travel to both Grinnell College and Knox College next weekend (April 23-24). Box Scores: Game 1 | Game 2
