LAKE FOREST, IL - Lake Forest College softball player Leigh Anne Furgerson (Carmel, IN/Westfield) was named Forester Athlete of the Week after an outstanding five-day stretch in which she earned four victories on the mound and set the Lake Forest College record for career wins.

At the Midwest Conference Classic last weekend Furgerson (April 12-13) went 3-0. She threw ten scoreless innings in shutouts of Ripon College (5-0) and Carroll College (7-0), and earned a win in six innings of relief in a 9-8 nail biter with Lawrence University. Her third victory of the weekend was the 29th of her career. In her three Classic appearances, Furgerson gave up just one earned run and ten hits in 16 innings of work. She struck out eight and walked one.

The junior hurler's fourth consecutive victory was a 10-2 six-inning decision over Carthage College Wednesday (April 16). She scattered seven hits, whiffed three and walked one to lead the Foresters to a doubleheader sweep of the Lady Reds.

For the week, Furgerson pitched 22.0 innings, allowed four runs (two earned) and recorded 11 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .218 batting average. The school's all-time leader in victories is now 6-2 on the season with a 0.59 ERA.

The Forester Athlete of the Week is chosen by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
