Feeney's Big Day Helps Foresters to Sweep of Aurora
Findeisen and Gilbert combine for a two-hitter in game one

Kristen Feeney homered in the first game of the doubleheader and went 3-for-3 in the second.
LAKE FOREST, IL - With solid pitching in game one and clutch hitting in game two, the Forester softball team completed a doubleheader sweep of Aurora University on Friday (April 19th), winning the first game, 5-0, and the second, 5-4. The non-conference victories raised Lake Forest's record to 15-8 on the season while Aurora fell to 8-20.

Nancy Findeisen (Beecher, IL/ Beecher) was the Foresters' starting pitcher in game one, and the ace of the staff took a no-hitter into the fifth inning for the fifth time this year. A sixth inning double ended the sophomore's bid for her second no-hitter of 2002. Sophomore Carly Gilbert (Berthound, CO/ Westminster) gave up a hit in the seventh to complete the combined two-hit shutout.

Offensively, Lake Forest was quiet and the game was scoreless until freshman Kristen Feeney (Brookfield, IL/Lyons Township) led of the fifth with the first home run of her career. That appeared to open the floodgates, as the Foresters collected four more runs on five more hits in the inning.

Junior second baseman Megan Gibson (Brown Deer, WI/Brown Deer) and senior catcher Jenn Reifenberg (Skokie, IL/Niles West) each went 2-for-3 in the game. The Foresters' leading hitter, freshman shortstop Tina Koludrovic (Darien, IL/Downers Grove South), had one of the sixth inning base hits to extend her hitting streak to 10 games.

Game two was a little more suspenseful than the first. Lake Forest scored first on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning. Aurora responded with a run of its own in the top of the fourth. Junior designated player Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL/Granite City) led off the Forester half of the fourth with her team-leading third home run of the season. Slater drove in three runs on the day to raise her team-leading total in that category to 16.

Five Aurora base hits in the top of the sixth plated three runs and staked the visitors to a 4-2 lead. Lake Forest scored once in the bottom of the sixth to cut the margin to one and set up a dramatic seventh frame. With the Foresters trailing by one with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh, Feeney stepped to the plate and connected with her third hit of the game, driving in the tying and winning runs.

On the day, Feeney went 4-for-6 with a home run, two runs scored, and three driven in, including both game-winning RBI.

Lake Forest does not have long to savor these wins, as a match-up at Midwest Conference foe Monmouth College awaits them Saturday (April 20th) afternoon. While the Foresters lead the league's South Division with a 6-1 record, both Monmouth and Knox College are only a game back at 5-2.
