LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Forester softball team win three times in four games over the weekend (April 20-21). Lake Forest prevailed 8-7 and fell 6-2 at North Central College on Friday and swept Midwest Conference foe Monmouth College 8-4 and 17-5 at home on Saturday. The Foresters are now 14-12 overall this season and 8-1 in league play.

Sophomore Hannah Michal (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake), freshman Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park), junior Christy Condon (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East), and senior Erin Watts (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) each had a pair of base hits in the opener at North Central. Rainey scored three times and Condon, who doubled and tripled in the contest, crossed home plate twice. Watts drove in three and also doubled. Junior Kendra Grant (Bothell, Wash./Bothell) pitched the entire game and earned the victory. North Central scored a run in the bottom of the second and both teams plated one in the third. The Three Foresters scored in the top of the fifth but the Cardinals tied it with two in the bottom of the frame. The home team took a 7-4 in the sixth but a four-run seventh gave Lake Forest the win.

Freshman Mallory Norton (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) was 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles in game two, senior Jenny Riddle (Bloomington, Ill./Normal) rattled off three base hits, and Rainey and Watts each had two. Michal (12 games) and Condon (11) had hitting streaks snapped. Both teams scored once in the third inning and the Foresters added one in the top of the third. North Central, however, took the lead for good with three in the bottom of the third, added a pair of insurance runs in the fourth, and held Lake Forest scoreless the rest of the way.

Norton and senior Lisa Jeziorny (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) each had three base hits in Saturday’s opener and Michal, Rainey, and Watts added two apiece. Condon homered and scored three times while Norton had two doubles, her fourth home run of the season, and drove in a pair. Grant won again to improve her record on the year to 7-4. Both teams scored once in the first inning and Lake Forest added one in the bottom of the third. Each team plated one in the fourth and two in the fifth, and the Foresters pulled away with three in the sixth.

Condon and Jeziorny each had three hits, including a home run, in game two. It was Jeziorny’s first round-tripper of the year and Condon’s seventh and they combined for five runs scored and six driven in. Michal doubled and belted her third home run of the season and Rainey, Watts, and Norton also had two of the team’s 17 base hits. Freshman Jeanette Andresen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) went the distance, struck out four, and is now 7-5 on the year. The Foresters scored three runs in the top of the second, third, and fifth innings. Monmouth plated one in the second, another in the fourth, and three in the sixth to make the score 9-5. Lake Forest put the game out of reach with an eight-run seventh.

The Foresters will host the University of Chicago at 4:00 Tuesday (April 24) afternoon.
