April 2, 2005 Contact: Mike Wajerski, SID Foresters Win One of Four Games on the Weekend Junior Ashley Closson (Murphysboro, IL/Murphysboro) allowed just six base hits and an unearned run in the sixth inning of Friday’s first game. She was also 1-for-2 at the plate in the contest. Lake Forest’s three thru six hitters combined for nine base hits, four runs scored, and four RBI in game two. Sophomore Erin Watts (Evergreen Park, IL/Evergreen Park) and freshman Jessica Kirincich (Channahon, IL/Minooka) were both 3-for-3 and Kirincich belted her first collegiate home run. Senior Kristen Feeney (Brookfield, IL/Lyons Township) was 2-for-2 with a double and Closson was 1-for-2 and drew a walk. Sophomore Kim Silvers (Walton, IN/Lewis Cass) allowed two runs in the top of the first inning and one in the sixth. The Foresters scored one in the second inning and two in both the third and fourth. The game was called after six due to darkness. Senior Alissa Mildebrath (Carol Stream, IL/West Chicago) singled to lead off the bottom of the first inning in Saturday’s first game. Watts later doubled her in to give the home team the early lead. Illinois College scored one in the second and two in the third. Sophomore Jenny Riddle (Bloomington, IL/Normal) hit her third home run of the season in the fourth inning to close out the scoring. Junior Melissa Wegner (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) batted 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored in game two. Riddle was 2-for-3 in the contest with three runs driven in. Watts also had a pair of base hits, including her second double of the day. Lake Forest scored once in the top of the first inning but surrendered two runs in the bottom of the frame and five more in the second. After three Forester tallies in the third cut the deficit to 7-4, the Lady Blues scored one more in their half of the inning. The home team drew to within 8-6 with two in the fifth but a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth secured the victory for Illinois College. Lake Forest will play another doubleheader at home next Thursday (April 7) at 3:00 against Carthage College. The Foresters will then travel to Janesville, Wisconsin, for next weekend’s (April 9-10) MWC Classic. The team will take on Beloit College, Carroll College, and Lawrence University on Saturday and both Ripon College and St. Norbert College on Sunday.
