Lake Forest Splits Doubleheader at Wheaton College
Shelby Neill hits first career home run and drives in four

WHEATON, Ill. - The Forester softball team split a pair of games at Wheaton College on Monday (April 2), winning the opener 7-5 and falling 5-4 in game two. Lake Forest is now 5-9 on the season and the Thunder is 11-7.

Senior rightfielder Kim Silvers (Walton, Ind./Lewis Cass), junior leftfielder Christy Condon (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East), freshman first baseman Shelby Neill (Manitou Beach, Mich./Lenawee Christian), freshman shortstop Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) and senior designated player Jenny Riddle (Bloomington, Ill./Normal) each had a pair of base hits in game one. Condon scored twice and Neill drove in two on her first career home run. Sophomore centerfielder Hannah Michal (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake) also had a pair of runs batted in and stole two bases. Junior Kendra Grant (Bothell, Wash./Bothell) pitched the entire game and earned the victory.

Both teams scored twice in the first inning and the Foresters added one in the second. Wheaton took the lead with two in the bottom of the third but Lake Forest regained the advantage with two in the fourth. Neill belted her two-run homer in the top of the sixth and the home team plated one in the bottom of the frame to close out the scoring.

Condon was the only Forester with two base hits in game two. Neill and Rainey each doubles and drove in two in the contest.

After Lake Forest scored one in the top of the first, Wheaton rallied for four in the bottom of the inning. Three Forester runs in the third inning tied the game but the home team scored what turned out to be the winning run in the bottom of the fourth.

Lake Forest will begin Midwest Conference play on Saturday (April 7). The Foresters will host Illinois College at 1:00 p.m.
