LAKE FOREST, IL - Lake Forest College softball player Leigh Anne Furgerson (Carmel, IN/Westfield) was named Midwest Conference South Division Player of the Week for her contributions to the team's 4-2 record during the week of April 15-21st.

Furgerson started her week with a 4-1 victory at home over North Central College, the nation's 13th-ranked team (USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association). North Central's lone run was unearned and the Cardinals, who entered the game with a 20-6-1 record and a .331 team batting average, managed just three hits in the game.

On Friday, the sophomore had her worst outing of the week but still managed to strike out seven in a complete game 5-4 win at home over Aurora University.

In the team's lone MWC action of the week, the Foresters regained first place in the South Division standings with a 2-1 triumph at Monmouth College in game two of the doubleheader. The run was not earned and Furgerson held Monmouth to just six hits while striking out four and not issuing a single base on balls.

For the week, Furgerson had three complete-game victories and an earned run average of just 1.00. Opposing hitters batted just .213 against her and struck out 13 times while only drawing one walk. After starting the season 1-3 with a 2.36 earned run average, Furgerson has earned a victory in each of her last six appearances and lowered her ERA to 1.38.

The Midwest Conference Players of the Week are chosen by the league's sports information directors.
