LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Lake Forest College softball player Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday (April 23) for her performance in seven games, including five victories, in the previous seven days.

Rainey, a junior shortstop, batted .421 (9-for-19) as Lake Forest won four of five games at last weekend’s (April 18-19) Midwest Conference Classic. Among her base hits were four doubles and a grand slam. She also scored seven runs and drove in seven while handling all 22 chances (11 putouts, 11 assists) she had at shortstop without an error in the five games combined.

The Foresters split a pair of non-conference contests with the University of Chicago at home on Tuesday (April 21). Rainey was 6-for-7 with two runs scored and seven driven in on the day. She recorded four more doubles, including a school record-tying three in game two, and raised her season total in that category to 15, which also ties the best mark in program history.

For the week (7 games) Rainey batted .538 with eight doubles, a home run, nine runs scored, and 14 RBI. She also posted a .962 slugging percentage and .970 fielding percentage.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Rainey also earned the award in back-to-back weeks earlier in 2009, twice last year in softball, and once during the 2007-08 basketball season.
