Foresters Atop MWC South Standings After Sweep of Illinois College
Koludrovic sets school record with 18-game hitting streak

Tina Koludrovic's hitting streak has reached a school-record 18 games.
LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College softball team ended a three-game losing skid Thursday (April 24) with a doubleheader sweep of Illinois College. The Foresters recorded an 8-0 shutout over the Lady Blues in the first game and game back to win 12-4 in game two. Both contests were called after six innings. Lake Forest improved its overall record to 19-7 and its Midwest Conference mark to a league-best 8-1. Illinois College fell to 10-17-1 overall and 1-8 in the league.

The Foresters' first six batter all reached base and scored in the bottom of the first in game one. Sophomore shortstop Tina Koludrovic (Darien, IL/Downers Grove South) drove in the first run with a single through the left side that extended her hitting streak to a school-record 17 games. Sophomore catcher Justeen Streich's (Arlington Heights, IL/Hersey) bases-loaded double drove in three.

Neither team was able to score again until the bottom of the sixth. With junior pitcher Nancy Findeisen (Beecher, IL/Beecher) on first and two outs, Koludrovic blasted her first home run of the season to give Lake Forest an eight-run lead and end the game.

Findeisen went the distance for the Foresters, allowing just four base hits while striking out six in as many innings. It was the junior's third shutout of 2003 and the 14th of her career. She is now 7-3 on the year.

Lake Forest received a bit of a scare in game two. Illinois College scored three times in the bottom of the first inning and held that lead until the top of the third when senior second baseman Megan Gibson (Brown Deer, WI/Brown Deer) tripled in freshman catcher Jen Thomason (Arvada, CO/Arvada West) with the team's first run of the game.

The Lady Blues regained their three-run advantage with a run in the bottom of the third and still led 4-1 through four innings. The Foresters, however, ended any chance of an upset with a five-run fifth and a six-run sixth. Gibson drove in one with her second double and third extra-base hit of the game. Koludrovic drove in two with a triple, extending her hitting streak to 18 games. A sixth-inning double by freshman right fielder Clare Longfellow (Wilmette, IL/New Trier) also plated two.

After a shaky start, junior pitcher Leigh Anne Furgerson (Carmel, IN/Westfield) settled down and got the win, improving her record to 8-3 on the season. Despite allowing three earned runs in five innings, her earned run average on the year remains impressive at 1.08.

Lake Forest will play a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader at Grinnell College on Friday (April 25) and could clinch the MWC South Division's top seed in next weekend's (May 2-3) MWC Championship Tournament in Appleton, Wisconsin, with a sweep. The Foresters also play at Knox College on Saturday (April 26).
