Robyn Slater is the first Forester with 100 career RBI.
GRINNELL, IA - The Forester softball team split a Midwest Conference doubleheader Friday (April 25) at Grinnell College, falling in the first game 6-5 and claiming game two 7-0. Lake Forest is now 20-8 overall and a league-best 9-2 in the MWC. The Pioneers' are 18-8 overall and 6-3 in the league.

Grinnell scored a run in the third, three in the fourth, and one in the fifth inning of game one. The Foresters were held scoreless on just three base hits until erupting for five runs in the top of the seventh. The team had six hits in the inning, including an RBI-single by freshman right fielder Melissa Wegner (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech), a double by sophomore left fielder Kristen Feeney (Brookfield, IL/Lyons Township) that drove in three, and an RBI-double by sophomore shortstop Tina Koludrovic (Darien, IL/Downers Grove South). Wegner and senior first baseman Shanon Joselane (Glendale Heights, IL/Glenbard East) each had two hits in the game.

While the dramatic comeback sent the game into the bottom of the seventh, it was all for naught as the Pioneers scored the game-winner without the aid of a base hit.

In game two, however, the Forester offense got on the scoreboard early, the defense was sound, and the pitching was stellar. Junior Leigh Anne Furgerson (Carmel, IN/Westfield) shut out the Pioneers for five innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out two. She now has a 9-3 record and a 1.00 ERA on the year. Freshman Ashley Closson (Murphysboro, IL/Murphysboro) pitched perfect sixth and seventh innings and also struck out two.

Lake Forest scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. Wegner led off the frame with the first of her three singles in the game. Koludrovic also singled in the inning to extend her hitting streak to 20 games. Sophomore second baseman Alissa Mildebrath (Carol Stream, IL/West Chicago) drove in a run with the first of her three base hits and senior third baseman Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL/Granite City) started her record-setting day at the plate with an RBI-double.

An RBI-triple by Mildebrath and run-scoring-single by Slater highlighted a two-run third inning. In the fourth, both players doubled in a run to account for the game's final score. In addition to three base hits, Mildebrath finished the contest with three runs scored and three driven in. Slater finished 4-for-4 with three RBI, making her the first Forester to drive in 100 in her career. Her double in the sixth also made her the first player in school history to double three times in a single game and 13 times in a season.

Lake Forest, Grinnell, and Monmouth College are all still vying for the MWC South Division's two berths to the conference championship tournament, to be hosted next weekend (May 2-3) by Lawrence University. The Foresters need just one victory Saturday (April 26) at Knox College to clinch their third straight division title.
