LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester softball team hosted and defeated Wheaton College 4-0 on Wednesday (April 25) to raise its record on the year to 20-11. Wheaton fell to 19-18.

Sophomore Kendra Grant (Bothell, WA/Bothell) scattered seven hits and struck out one while walking a pair. She is now 9-2 on the year with three shutouts and a 2.09 earned run average.

The Foresters took the lead in the bottom of the second inning on junior Lisa Jeziorny’s (Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg) fifth home run of 2006. Senior Ashley Closson (Murphysboro, IL/Murphysboro) belted her first round-tripper of the year to lead off the fifth and, after junior Kim Silvers (Walton, IN/Lewis Cass) singled with two outs in the inning, senior Melissa Wegner (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) hit her sixth homer of the season to close out the scoring. Wegner and Closson were each 2-for-3 in their final regular season home game.

The three home runs in the game raise Lake Forest’s season total to a single-season school record 25, two more than the previous mark set by the 2002 team.

The Foresters will finish their regular season schedule with a doubleheader at Carthage College on Thursday (April 27) at 3:00 p.m. Lake Forest has qualified for the four-team Midwest Conference Championship Tournament on May 5-6 and will host the tournament if Monmouth College loses any of its six conference games this week.
