Melissa Wegner Named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week
Junior batted .423 with nine runs scored and 12 RBI in seven games 

  

Melissa Wegner is now just two runs batted in shy of the single-season school record.
LAKE FOREST, IL - Lake Forest College softball player Melissa Wegner (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) was named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week Tuesday (April 26) for her contributions to the Foresters’ 6-1 record over the last seven days.

Wegner began the week by batting 1-for-4 in the team’s 10-9 victory at Trinity International University on Monday (April 18). The junior shortstop also added two runs scored and as many driven in.

After going hitless in the opener of the Foresters’ doubleheader split with the University of Chicago on Thursday (April 21), Wegner was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a two-run home run in game two.

Lake Forest swept a doubleheader at Grinnell College on Saturday (April 23). Wegner was 1-for-3 in the first game and 2-for-3 with a walk and a pair of RBI in the second.

Finally, Wegner’s best performance of the week came in the Foresters’ sweep at Knox College on Sunday (April 24). She tripled in two runs in the fourth inning of game one’s 8-5 triumph and broke a 4-4 tie with a grand slam in the sixth. She was also 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored in a 9-3 game two victory.

For the week Wegner batted .423 (11-for-26) with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, nine runs scored, and 12 runs batted in. She now leads the squad with 30 runs scored and is tied for first with 28 RBI, two fewer than the program’s single-season record.
