Findeisen and Furgerson Get 10th Wins in Sweep of Grinnell
Mildebrath and Koludrovic each homer in game two

Megan Gibson became the team's latest record-breaker with her 12th sacrifice bunt.
LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester softball team extended its winning streak to seven games Saturday (April 27th) by sweeping Grinnell College in a doubleheader at home. A six-run third inning helped Lake Forest to a 9-0 victory in the opener and a four-run sixth gave the team a 4-2 win in game two.

The Foresters got on the scoreboard early with a run in the bottom of the first inning in game one. After freshman leadoff hitter Alissa Mildebrath (Carol Stream, IL/West Chicago) drew a walk, junior second baseman Megan Gibson (Brown Deer, WI/Brown Deer) set a new school record with her 12th sacrifice bunt of the year. Two batters later, junior third baseman Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL/Granite City) singled in Mildebrath for her team-leading 17th RBI of the season.

Thanks to five Forester base hits and a pair of Grinnell errors, the home team plated six runs in the bottom of the third to put the game out of reach. Lake Forest scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth and, because of the nine-run lead, the game was called after Grinnell's half of the fifth.

The pitching victory went to Nancy Findeisen (Beecher, IL/ Beecher), giving her a 10-5 record for the season. The sophomore struck out eight and allowed just three hits in her seventh complete game shutout of the year. She leads the team with a 0.87 earned run average and a school record 105 strikeouts.

The Foresters found scoring a little more difficult in game two, and actually trailed 1-0 going into the top of the sixth. Mildebrath, however, tied the score when she clobbered a 2-2 pitch over the center field fence to lead off the inning. The blast raised her school record for home runs in a season to six. Two batters later, Tina Koludrovic (Darien, IL/Downers Grove South) hit her second homer of the year, a two-run shot down the left field line to give Lake Forest the lead. The freshman shortstop was 3-for-7 on the day, raising her team-leading batting average to .395. Rightfielder Chris Laurine (Richmond, IL/Richmond-Burton), who was 2-for-3 in the game and 3-for-6 on the day, singled and later scored in the inning to give the Foresters a 4-1 lead.

Pitcher Leigh Anne Furgerson (Carmel, IN/Westfield) gave up her first earned run of the season in Midwest Conference play in the bottom of the seventh but held on for her ninth consecutive victory. The sophomore is now 10-3 with a 1.54 ERA. She is 5-0 with a 0.26 ERA in MWC games.

The Foresters (22-9 overall, 9-2 MWC) will host Knox College (18-9, 7-4) on Tuesday (April 30th) at 3:00 PM, needing just one more win to clinch first place in the MWC South Division for the second straight year. The South Division champ will also earn the right to host the 2002 MWC Championship Tournament on Friday and Saturday (May 3-4th).
