Melissa Wegner Named Forester Athlete of the Week
Junior batted .500 with a grand slam and a triple last weekend 
  

Melissa Wegner was also named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week on Tuesday.
LAKE FOREST, IL - Lake Forest College softball player Melissa Wegner (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) was named Forester Athlete of the Week Thursday (April 28) for her contributions to her team’s four Midwest Conference victories last weekend (April 23-24).

At Grinnell College on Saturday, Wegner went 3-for-6 with a pair of runs batted in and a run scored in the Foresters’ doubleheader sweep. Lake Forest won the opener 4-3 and the second game 13-1.

The following day at Knox College, the junior shortstop stayed hot from the plate with a 2-for-3 performance and six RBI in Lake Forest’s 8-5 game one win. Her two hits were a triple in the fourth inning and a grand slam in the sixth that broke a 4-4 tie. In the second game, Wegner recorded a pair of singles and runs scored to help the Foresters notch a 9-3 triumph.

Wegner currently leads the team in runs scored and is tied for the lead in runs batted in and home runs.

The Forester Athlete of the Week is chosen by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
