Shelby Neill Named Forester Athlete of the Week
Freshman belted first career home run on Monday

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Lake Forest College softball player Shelby Neill (Manitou Beach, Mich./Lenawee Christian) was named Forester Athlete of the Week Thursday (April 5) for her performance in the team’s doubleheader split at Wheaton College the previous Monday (April 2).

Neill, a freshman first baseman, was 2-for-4 in the opener, a 7-5 Lake Forest victory. She hit her first career home run – a two-run shot – in the top of the sixth inning to put the Foresters ahead by three.

Neill also drove in two runs in game two as Lake Forest fell 5-4. She bunted in the games first run in the top of the first inning and then doubled in another in the third.

In the two games combined, Neill batted 3-for-7 with a double, home run, two runs scored, and four driven in. She is now hitting .371 on the season and leads the team with eight RBI.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
