Foresters Sweep IC, Begin 2-0 in MWC South Division
20 hits produced 21 runs in convincing wins

Robyn Slater blasted a two-run homer and drove in two more with a single on Saturday.
JACKSONVILLE, IL - It took just over two hours for the Lake Forest College women's softball team to complete a two-game sweep of Illinois College and begin South Division play at 2-0. The Foresters beat the Lady Blues 10-1 in the first game and 11-0 in the second in front of 75 at Jessica Kamp Field on Saturday, April 6.

In game one, Tina Koludrovic (Darien, IL/Downers Grove South), Alissa Mildebrath (Carol Stream, IL/West Chicago), and Jenn Reifenberg (Skokie, IL/Niles West) all had multiple-hit games to lead Lake Forest at the plate. The team pounded out 12 hits off Lady Blue pitcher Stephanie Dour while Nancy Findeisen (Beecher, IL/Beecher), who was named Midwest Conference player of the week last week, gave up just four.

The game was tied at one until the Forester fourth, when Chrissy Laurine (Richmond, IL/Richmond-Burton) hit a double to the gap, scoring Mildebrath. Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL/Granite City) then hit a two-RBI single. This all came with two outs. "Once we started hitting the ball, it was contagious," said head coach Diane Kanney, whose team moved to 8-6 overall with the wins. She added, "Sometimes it takes a leader to step up and get that first hit, sparking the rest of the lineup."

Even if the bats hadn't shown up, Findeisen's arm was on fire, as it usually is. Her complete game was good enough for her fourth win of the season. She struck out eight and walked just one.

Game two was similar to the first, except this time Lake Forest crammed all their run support into the fourth inning.  Two walks and a wild pitch by Illinois College pitcher Jamie Carroll, along with an error by centerfielder Kristy VanMeter, started what would be an 11 run shellacking, the most runs in an inning by Forester hitters this year. Mildebrath and Slater highlighted the fourth by going yard, each for two runs, making the Lady Blues pay for their mistakes.

Leigh Anne Furgerson (Carmel, IN/Westfield) and Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) combined for nine strikeouts while earning the shutout. Furgerson got credit for her second win of the year, giving up just one hit in four innings of work.

Lake Forest looks to lengthen its winning streak tomorrow afternoon when they play at Monmouth College. The Fighting Scots have not played in the conference yet this season, but they are 7-8 overall and were selected to finish second in the Midwest Conference South Division coaches poll.
