April 7, 2008 Contact: Mike Wajerski, SID Pfund and Andresen Named MWC Performer and Pitcher of the Week
Pfund, a sophomore catcher, started the weekend by becoming the first player in team history to belt three home runs in a game. Her solo homer and pair of two-run shots paced the offense in the team's 12-2 victory in Saturday’s opener at Illinois College. Andresen pitched all seven innings, allowing just two runs on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks. The Foresters also defeated the Lady Blues 2-1 in game two and Pfund had one of their four base hits. Pfund was held hitless but drove in a run in Lake Forest’s 6-5 victory in game one at Monmouth College on Sunday. She batted 2-for-4 in game two, a 13-6 triumph. Andresen entered the game with the team trailing 5-3 in the top of the third and surrendered just one run on three base hits while striking out one and walking three in four-and-two-thirds innings. Andresen is now 5-1 on the season with a 3.21 earned run average. Pfund is batting .386, leads the squad with six home runs and a slugging percentage of .886, and is tied for the team lead with 20 runs batted in. Midwest Conference Performers of the Week are selected by the league’s sports information director. Andresen also earned the award once last season. Midwest Conference Release (pdf)
