Leigh Anne Furgerson Named Forester Athlete of the Week
Senior pitcher's three victories included a no-hitter

Leigh Anne Furgerson allowed nine hits and struck out 18 in three games.
LAKE FOREST, IL - Lake Forest College softball player Leigh Anne Furgerson (Carmel, IN/Westfield) was named Forester Athlete of the Week after she threw her first career no-hitter and recorded two more wins in impressive fashion. The school's all-time leader in victories posted an ERA of 0.32 in the three games and improved her record on the season to 6-2.

In a 3-2 triumph over Carthage College (April 1), Furgerson scattered seven hits and struck out five, allowing just one earned run. It was the only earned run she would surrender in 22.0 innings of work during the week.

The senior hurler then went the distance in an eight-inning affair with Midwest Conference foe Grinnell College (April 3). She retired the first 17 batters she faced before a two-out double in the sixth ended her bid for a perfect game. The team captain fanned seven and gave up just two hits as the Foresters defeated the Pioneers 1-0.

Tuesday's (April 6) no-hitter, a 3-0 victory over Benedictine University, capped off Furgerson's outstanding week. She was perfect through four innings before walking one in the fifth and another in the sixth. Her six strikeouts included the 200th of her career.

The Forester Athlete of the Week is chosen by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
