Shelby Neill
LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Lake Forest College softball player Shelby Neill (Manitou Beach, Mich./Lenawee Christian) was named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week Monday (April 9) for her performance in a pair of doubleheaders in the previous seven days.

Neill, a freshman first baseman and catcher, started the week by batting 3-for-7 with two runs scored and four driven in during a doubleheader split at Wheaton College. Among her base hits were a double and her first career home run. The Foresters won the opener 7-54 and fell 5-4 in game two.

After recording a base hit in three at-bats in the opener on Saturday, she posted one of the greatest offensive performances in team history in the second game. She set a pair of single-same school records with nine RBI and 11 total bases (HR, 3 2B, 1B) and matched two others with five base hits and three doubles in the team’s 17-10 triumph. The home run was a two-out grand slam that broke a 3-3 tie in the second inning.

For the week she batted .600 (9-for-15) with four runs scored, four doubles, two home runs, 13 RBI, and a 1.267 slugging percentage. She also had 38 chances without an error at first base and catcher.

Midwest Conference Performers of the Week are selected by the league’s sports information director.
