Foresters win three over the weekend

Lake Forest College swept Knox 3-0 and 6-4, and split with Grinnell -- winning 9-1 and losing 5-2 -- in weekend Midwest Conference action.

LFC is now 3-1 in the South Division of the league and 13-13 overall. Most area teams have ordinary overall records because they usually struggle when facing powerhouse teams on spring trips to Florida.

In the 3-0 win over Knox, Cari Poznansky pitched a two-hitter, fanning three and walking none. Freshman Jenn Reifenberg hit a solo home run in the second and drove in a run with a sixth-inning single.

In the 6-4 win over Knox, sophomore Chris Laurine was the winning pitcher, and Poznansky got the save. Laurine hit a three-run home run to help her own cause.

In the 9-1 win over Grinnell, Laurine hit a grand-slam home run in the fifth inning, and was also the winning pitcher.

In the 5-2 loss to Grinnell, four Lake Forest errors were costly.

In the doubleheader split, LFC's Kim Magee went 6 for 7 with 4 runs scored, 3 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.
