Benedictine Takes Two From Lake Forest
Kim Sponsel collects three hits in the two games

LISLE, IL - Benedictine University (IL) won both games of a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday (April 3rd). The Eagles won the first game, 5-2, and took the second game, 9-0.

Benedictine (13-3) swept their third straight home doubleheader, while Lake Forest fell to 5-9 overall.

Lake Forest scored two runs in the top of the first inning on three straight singles by Kim Sponsel (San Diego, CA/Mira Mesa), Colleen Cotton (Crystal Lake, IL/Prairie Ridge), and Chris Laurine (Richmond, IL/Richmond-Burton) and a walk by Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL/Granite City) to start the first game. A BU wild pitch also brought home a run.

But the Eagles put two runs of their own on the board in their half of the first inning to tie the game. BU added another run in the third and two more in the sixth to seal the 5-2 win.

Sponsel went two-for-four at the plate for the game and added another hit in the second game to top the Foresters.

In game two, the Eagles pounded out four runs in the first inning and five runs in the second inning and cruised to a 9-0 win in five innings.

Lake Forest will host St. Xavier University tomorrow (April 4th) for their next action.
