FORESTERS DOUBLE WIN TOTAL WITH SWEEP OF BELOIT
The Lake Forest softball team used a late-inning rally and an 8-run inning to record a sweep of visiting Beloit on Saturday and double their 1999 victory total.  The Foresters worked overtime to defeat Beloit in the first game.  Lake Forest found themselves down 5-2 going into the bottom of seventh inning.  After a Kate Parkinson groundout, Vicki DeBartolo and Erin Valentour hit back-to-back singles, which was followed by a Karla Gribble walk to load the bases.  Megan Smith lined out to left field, which scored one run and set up the two-out heroics of Jessie Griffin and Karen Siska.  The co-captains came through with singles.  Siska's hit tied the game and sent it into extra innings.  After holding the Buccaneers scoreless in their half of the eighth, the Foresters seemed ready to do the same after two quick outs.  But DeBartolo singled with two outs, Valentour roped a double to right-center field and DeBartolo beat the throw home to cap the Foresters' comeback and give them the 6-5 win.  Parkinson went all eight innings, allowing five runs (three earned) and striking out six, to pick up the win.  Siska finished the game with three hits and two RBIs.  Kim Magee and Valentour each added two singles.
The Foresters didn't wait until the late innings in the second game.  They exploded for eight runs in the second inning, capped by a Magee three-run home run, which was preceded by back-to-back doubles by Cari Poznansky and Siska.  The Foresters then coasted to a 10-5 victory.  Magee finished the second game with five runs batted in, three hits and two runs scored.  Siska added two more hits, two runs and two RBIs, while Gribble had two hits and two runs scored.  Poznansky got the win for Lake Forest by going all seven inning and allowing five runs (two earned).
The sweep gave Lake Forest an overall record of 4-12.  Although Beloit is a Midwest Conference member, the game was a non-conference affair since Beloit is a North Division member and Lake Forest belongs to the South Division.
