Lake Forest Drops Two Close Games to St. Xavier
First game of the doubleheader lasts nine innings

LAKE FOREST, IL - Visiting St. Xavier University swept a doubleheader at Lake Forest College by final scores of 3-2 (in nine innings) and 4-0 in non-conference softball play on Wednesday (April 4th).

Lake Forest fell to 5-11 on the season while SXU improved to 8-10 overall.

In the first game, Kassie Surratt's (Rushville, IL/Rushville) two-out single scored runners from second and third and gave the Foresters a 2-0 lead after the first inning. St. Xavier scored one run in each of the fifth and seventh innings to send the game into extra innings.

In the top of the ninth inning, St. Xavier's Shannon Evans hit her second solo homerun of the day to give SXU the one-run victory. Despite Lake Forest's nine hits, the team stranded 10 runners on base for the game, including six in the final three innings.

Leigh Anne Furgerson (Carmel, IN/Westfield) went all nine innings for Lake Forest, while Jennifer Raftery did the same for St. Xavier and claimed the win. All five of the game's runs were earned.

In the second game, Stacie Eschmann shutout Lake Forest on one hit and SXU scored all four of their runs in the first inning. Carly Gilbert (Berthound, CO/Westminster) settled down after the rocky first inning and blanked SXU in the final six innings while scattering three hits over that span.

The Foresters will be off for nearly a week-and-a-half before traveling to Iowa to face Grinnell College in the Midwest Conference season opener for both teams.
