LAKE FOREST, IL - Lake Forest College head softball coach Diane Kanney announced her resignation after seven years directing the program. Kanney leaves as the team's all-time winningest coach with 125 victories. She plans to pursue other interests after leaving Lake Forest.

Kanney and the Foresters have won each of the last two Midwest Conference Championships. In addition, the 2002 squad finished second at the NCAA Division III National Tournament and the 2003 team advanced to the regional championship game.

Following the 1998, 2001, and 2002 seasons, Kanney was named MWC South Division Coach of the Year. She, along with assistants Chris Pier and Jill Popovich, were also selected as the National Coaching Staff of the Year in 2002.

After posting a career record of 49-72-1 over her first four years, Kanney led the Foresters to a first-place finish in the MWC South and an 18-17-1 overall record in 2001, matching the school record for victories in a season. In 2002, the Foresters shattered that mark with a 34-12 record en route to the school's first MWC title since 1988 and its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. The 2003 team finished 25-13, defended its league title, and advanced to the NCAA Regional Tournament where they were knocked off by Wartburg College in the championship.

Kanney's career record was 125-115-2 and she posted a 46-26-1 in conference play.

Not only was Diane one of our most successful coaches," commented Lake Forest College Athletic Director Jackie Slaats, "but she also contributed to our department in many other ways. While we will miss her and all that she did, we also wish her the best of luck in whatever she does in the future."
