The 2009 season is the second for Lindsey Shifley as the Foresters' pitching coach. Under Shifley's direction, three different Lake Forest College pitchers each posted a winning record and an earned run average below 3.75 in 2008. In addition, freshman Gretchen Galasek earned First Team All-Midwest Conference South Division honors. Shifley has been a private pitching coach since 1999 and also served as the assistant coach at Mundelein High School from 2003-05. She graduated from Northwestern University in 1999 after a four-year career as a scholarship player. Shifley pitched in 28 games for the Wildcats in 1996 and 1997 before moving to the outfield for her junior and senior seasons. She was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a Second Team All-Big Ten selection as a junior. As a senior she captained the team and earned Northwestern's Lisa Ishikawa Award, which is presented to a female student-athlete who exhibited outstanding leadership skills and selfless dedication to team goals. She was also the recipient of Northwestern's Waldo Fisher Memorial Scholarship in 1997 and the Sidney Warshauer and Joseph Stein Athletic Scholarship in 1998. Shifley excelled as a pitcher in high school, earning Chicago Sun Times Player of the Year and Chicago Tribune First Team All-State honors. Her 26 shutouts, three consecutive perfect games, and 27 consecutive strikeouts during her season season still rank among the top 10 performances in Illinois High School Association history. Head
