Foresters Move to 4-0 With Wins Over Denison and Geneva
Findeisen throws second straight shutout

Nancy Findeisen is now 2-0 with a pair of shutouts.
ORLANDO, FL - For the first time since 1986, the Forester softball team has started its season with four consecutive victories. After defeating Ithaca College and Muskingum College, the defending NCAA Division III National Champions, on Sunday (March 10th), Lake Forest collected two more victories on Tuesday (March 12th) over Denison University, 2-0, and Geneva College, 5-4. All four wins occurred in Orlando, Florida, where the Foresters and many other schools are playing in the Rebel Spring Games.

In the early (8:50 AM, EST) game against #14 Denison (USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association), Nancy Findeisen (Beecher, IL/ Beecher) threw her second shutout in as many starts. The Big Red managed just three hits against the sophomore hurler, who struck out nine and did not walk a single batter. In her two appearances this season, Findeisen is 2-0 and has allowed just 8 hits in 14 innings while striking out 10 and not allowing a single base on balls.

The game was scoreless until senior catcher Jenn Reifenberg (Skokie, IL/Niles West) drove in senior rightfielder Chris Laurine (Richmond, IL/Richmond-Burton) from third with a sixth inning single. Both Reifenberg and Laurine had two of the Foresters' 10 hits in the game. Senior centerfielder Erin Valentour (Bolingbrook, IL/Downers Grove South) scored the game's only other run on a sacrifice fly from freshman pinch hitter Kristen Feeney (Brookfield, IL/Lyons Township) in the top of the seventh.

Only two Denison players were able to reach third base in the game, and both with just one out. The first was picked off by Reifenberg in the fourth and the second was left stranded in the fifth after Findeisen struck out the next two hitters.

Lake Forest held off a comeback attempt by Geneva in the afternoon game, giving sophomore pitcher Carly Gilbert (Berthound, CO/Westminster) a win in her first game of the season. Gilbert gave up three runs (all earned) on just three hits in six innings.

Freshman second baseman Alissa Mildebrath (Carol Stream, IL/West Chicago) went 3-for-4 in the game, raising her average on the season to a team-high .462 (6-for-13). Freshman shortstop Tina Koludrovic (Darien, IL/Downers Grove South) collected a pair of hits in three at-bats.

Lake Forest opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first and scored two more in the third. Geneva scored three in the fourth and the Foresters added one in the sixth. Sophomore Leigh Anne Furgerson (Carmel, IN/Westfield) allowed just one run in the seventh for her first save of the year.

The Foresters will play again Wednesday (March 13th) night against Marietta College (6:00 PM) and Springfield College (7:50 PM).
