Findeisen's No-Hitter Gives Lake Forest a Split for the Day
Foresters fall to Marietta, defeat Springfield

Nancy Findeisen's no-hitter is also her third straight shutout.
ORLANDO, FL - It was an emotional roller coaster for the Lake Forest College softball team on Wednesday (March 13th) night. In the Foresters' first game of the evening, they suffered their first loss of the season, a heart-breaking 1-0 defeat at the hands of Marietta College, who scored the only run of the game with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. The late game certainly boosted the spirits of Lake Forest and its fans, though, as sophomore Nancy Findeisen (Beecher, IL/ Beecher) threw a no-hitter in the team's 4-0 win over Springfield College.

Tina Koludrovic (Darien, IL/Downers Grove South) had two of the Foresters' seven hits in the opener. The freshman shortstop also stole her team-leading third base of the season. Lake Forest had a runner on base in every inning and left 12 runners stranded in the game, seven of them in scoring position.

Sophomore Leigh Anne Furgerson (Carmel, IN/Westfield) pitched extremely well in the loss, scattering six hits and striking out three without issuing a single base on balls. Her record falls to 1-1 on the year while her earned run average also drops to 2.45. The Marietta runner who scored the winning run was the only Pioneer to reach third base and one of only two to make it to second.

Just minutes after suffering their first loss of the year, the Foresters were back in action against Springfield College. Junior third baseman Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL/Granite City) and senior leftfielder Kristin Brand (McHenry, IL/McHenry West) each went 3-for-3 against the Pride. Slater also drove in a pair of runs and Brand extended her hitting streak to five games.

Overshadowing the offensive exploits of Slater and Brand, however, was the continued dominant pitching by Findeisen. After posting a pair of shutouts over nationally ranked teams already this week, she was going to have to do something exceptional on Wednesday to make the headlines again. Seven innings of no-hit ball and 13 strikeouts later, the Foresters' ace left the field with her first collegiate no-hitter. In 21 scoreless innings this week, the sophomore has allowed just 8 hits while striking out 23 and walking only one. She also went 1-for-3 and scored a pair of runs on Wednesday, raising her batting average to .300 for the season.

At 5-1, Lake Forest is off to its best start since 1986. The Foresters will complete their Rebel Spring Games schedule on Thursday (March 14th) with a pair of afternoon contests against Midwest Conference foe Carroll College (12:30 PM, EST) and Simpson College (2:20 PM). With a victory in either game, the team will have posted its best record in six Spring Break trips to Orlando, Florida, for the annual event. After returning home, Lake Forest will play two doubleheaders on the road before its home opener on Friday, March 29th against Benedictine University (also a doubleheader).
