KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Forester softball team split its two games on back-to-back days (March 12-13) at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida. Lake Forest fell 14-0 to Ramapo College of New Jersey and defeated Emerson College 11-2 on Wednesday. Both games lasted just five innings. The Foresters then knocked off Hiram College 11-9 before falling 8-3 to Marietta College on Thursday. Lake Forest is now 5-3 on the young season.

Singles by senior Christy Condon (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) and sophomore Sam Pinsonneault (Manchester, N.H./New Hampton) were the lone Forester base hits against Ramapo, which scored a dozen runs in the bottom of the first inning and one more in the second and third.

Lake Forest jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first against Emerson. A one-out triple by freshman Nicole Moser (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) started the rally and was followed by consecutive singles by sophomore Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park), Condon, and sophomore Mallory Norton (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection). Sophomore Shelby Neill (Manitou Beach, Mich./Lenawee Christian) drove in a run with a walk, classmate Jill Pfund (Morenci, Mich./Morenci) on a single, and senior Erin Ruberg (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) on a fielder’s choice. Junior Hannah Michal (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake) singled to lead off the second and scored on a Rainey double. After Emerson scored twice in the top of the third, the Foresters put the game away with six in the bottom of the frame. Ruberg drove in one with a double, Rainey plated two on her career-high-tying third base hit of the contest, and Norton doubled in a pair.

Senior Kendra Grant (Bothell, Wash./Bothell) pitched all five innings to earn the victory, her second of the season. Rainey drove in a career-high four runs in the contest and, along with Michal and Moser, scored twice. Multi-hit games were recorded by Rainey, Norton, and Pfund.

The Foresters scored three times in the top of the second inning against Hiram to take a lead they would never relinquish. Condon started the frame with a single and Norton followed with a double. Neill singled to drive in Condon, Norton scored on a sacrifice fly by Pfund, and Neill scampered home on a wild pitch. Hiram’s run in the bottom of the second was matched in the top of the third when Condon’s two-out single drove in Moser, who had doubled. Hiram scored two in the bottom of the inning to make the score 4-3. Condon doubled in Rainey and scored on a Neill single in the fifth but the Terriers also scored two runs in the inning. Condon matched a career-high with her fourth base hit of the game in the sixth. It came with the bases loaded and drove in Pinsonneault and Moser. Rainey and Condon then scored on another double by Norton, who came home on a Neill single to give the Foresters an 11-5 advantage. Hiram scored two in the sixth and two more in the seventh but still fell two runs short.

Sophomore Jeanette Andresen (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) threw all seven innings to earn the victory, her third in as many decisions this season.

Marietta scored a run in the first inning of Thursday’s second game and added one in the fourth and fifth and two in the sixth to take a 5-0 lead. The Foresters got their first hit of the game in the fifth and then broke through for three runs on just two hits in the sixth. Michal and Moser drew walks to lead off the inning. Michal scored on a single by Rainey, who scored along with Moser on a base hit by Neill. Marietta, however, put the game out of reach with three in the top of the seventh.

Condon is now leading the team with 11 base hits and a .478 batting average after eight games. She also has 21 total bases and a .913 slugging percentage. Rainey and Moser have each scored nine runs and Pfund has driven in a dozen. Norton leads the squad with five doubles.

Lake Forest will finish the trip with a pair of games on Friday (March 14). The team will take on Marian College (Indiana) at 3:00 p.m. and Washington College (Maryland) at 5:00.
