ORLANDO, FL - The Lake Forest College softball team returned from their annual Spring Break trip with a 4-4 record. This year's trip took the team to Orlando, Florida for the Rebel Spring Games.

After dropping three of their first four games, the Foresters bounced back to win three straight games before losing their final game of the trip.

In the team's season opener, Denison University's Robin Sheskey shutout Lake Forest, 3-0, on three hits. Freshman Nancy Findeisen (Beecher, IL/ Beecher) recorded a strong performance on the mound for LF by pitching six innings and allowing three runs, only one of which was earned.

Lake Forest bounced back in their second game with a 7-3 win over UW-Stout. The Foresters scored at least one run in each of the first three innings and added three more in the sixth to break the game open. In that inning, Kim Magee (Lake Oswego, OR/Lake Oswego) drove home two runs with a one-out single and Karla Gribble (Mineral Point, WI/Mineral Point) would later score on a wild pitch. Robyn Slater's (Granite City, IL/Granite City) two-run homerun in the first inning gave LF the early lead. Leigh Anne Furgerson (Carmel, IN/Westfield), in her first collegiate start, allowed three unearned runs en route to the win.

Lake Forest followed up their first win of the season with two one-run losses on Monday (March 12th). UW-Lacrosse (3-2) and Coast Guard Academy (4-3) knocked off the Foresters. Seven Foresters collected hits against Maryville and Chris Laurine (Richmond, IL/Richmond-Burton) belted a two-run homerun. Findeisen allowed just two hits and struck out six in five innings of work. Lake Forest jumped out to a 7-1 lead on Geneva and coasted to the six-run victory. Four different players had multi-hit games for LF, including Slater's three-for-five day with five runs batted in and two runs scored. Carly Gilbert (Berthound, CO/Westminster) got the win on the mound, her first collegiate victory.

Lake Forest's third consecutive win came at the hands of Baldwin-Wallace College, 6-0. It was their second shutout in the last three games. Furgerson pitched seven scoreless innings and allowed just three hits to record the win. She struck out three and did not walk a single batter. LF broke open a 0-0 tie when twelve players batted in the sixth inning. They scored six runs on five hits and a BWC error in the sixth frame. Laurine went two-for-two at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.

In the Foresters' final game of their trip, Westminster College used two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure a 4-3 win over Lake Forest.
