TUCSON, AZ - The Lake Forest College softball team posted a 4-5 record at the Tucson Invitational Games during the College’s Spring Break. The Foresters opened with a 19-8 loss to Minot State University on Saturday (March 11) and a 5-4 loss to La Roche College the next morning. The team knocked off Lakeland College 9-0 that afternoon for its first victory of the season, then added shutouts over Blackburn College (6-0) and Marian College (8-0) on Monday (March 13). The Foresters fell 10-4 to Dickinson State University and 7-5 to Lakeland on Wednesday (March 15) and completed the trip with a 4-3 triumph over Finlandia University and a 5-4 loss to Marian on Thursday (March 16).

In the opener, Minot State scored five runs in the top of the first and at least three in each of the game’s five innings. The Foresters plated three in the bottom of the first, two in the third, and three in the fifth.

Junior Erin Watts (Evergreen Park, IL/Evergreen Park) and senior Ashley Closson (Murphysboro, IL/Murphysboro) each had a single and a double in the opener. Closson gave up just three base hits while striking out 11 Finlandia batters in Thursday’s opener. Lake Forest regained the edge with two in the third and was ahead 4-2 after scoring again in the fourth.
