March 23rd, 2002 Contact: Mike Wajerski, SID Lake Forest Drops a Pair at St. Xavier University
Forester Nancy Findeisen (Beecher, IL/ Beecher) took a no-hitter into the fifth inning for the third straight start. Unfortunately for the sophomore hurler, it also turned out to be her second straight loss. After collecting four hits on Saturday, batters are hitting just .133 against Findeisen in five complete games this season. She is 3-2 with a 0.62 earned run average. After the Cougars scored twice in the bottom of the fifth, freshman designated player Alissa Mildebrath (Carol Stream, IL/West Chicago) led off the top of the sixth with her second hit of the game and team-leading third double of the season. Senior rightfielder Chris Laurine (Richmond, IL/Richmond-Burton) led off the seventh with her third two-base hit of the year, matching Mildebrath's total. In both innings, St. Xavier's pitching and defense ended the Forester scoring threats. The second game of the doubleheader was similar to the first. Just two of the three runs allowed by sophomore pitcher Leigh Anne Furgerson (Carmel, IN/Westfield) were earned. While her record fell to 1-3 on the season, her earned run average remained respectable at 2.36. Lake Forest managed just three hits in the game. The Foresters are hitting .239 this year while holding their opponents to a paltry .215 batting average. The Foresters' record falls to 5-5. They will travel to Carthage College on Tuesday (March 26th) to take on the Lady Reds at 2:30 PM. Lake Forest's home opener will be on Friday (March 29th) against Benedictine University at 3:00 PM.
