LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester softball team raised its record on the year to 6-5 with a doubleheader sweep of Milwaukee School of Engineering at home on Saturday (March 25). Lake Forest won 8-1 in the opener and 10-2 in five innings in game two. The losses dropped the Raiders’ record to 0-8.

M.S.O.E. scored the first run of the day in the top of game one’s third inning, The Foresters responded with four in the bottom of the frame. Sophomore Rachael Pasdo (Hoffman Estates, IL/William Fremd) led off with a double and, with one out, junior Erin Watts (Evergreen Park, IL/Evergreen Park) belted the team’s first home run of the season. It was the 100th base hit and 10th round-tripper of her career. Sophomore Erin Ruberg (Cincinnati, OH/McNicholas) then singled with two out and scored on a towering home run by classmate Christy Condon (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield East).

Lake Forest scored four more runs in the sixth. Junior Lisa Jeziorny (Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg) and senior Ashley Closson (Murphysboro, IL/Murphysboro) singled to start the inning and, when the Raiders failed to get the lead runner out on a sacrifice bunt, the bases were loaded. Junior Kim Silvers (Walton, IN/Lewis Cass) drove in a pair with a one-out double and Watts doubled to bring in two more.

Sophomore Kendra Grant (Bothell, WA/Bothell) struck out three batters and allowed just four base hits and a pair of walks. She raised her record on the year to 2-1 and lowered her earned run average to 1.56.

Closson was in the pitcher’s circle for game two and gave up just two unearned runs on three hits. She struck out 10 batters in the five-inning contest while walking two. She is now 3-2 on the season.

The Foresters took the early lead with three runs on just one base hit in the bottom of the first inning. Freshman Anna Risi (Highland Park, IL/Highland Park) singled to lead off the second inning and scored after a base hit by Silvers and a pair of wild pitches. Junior Jenny Riddle (Bloomington, IL/Normal) singled to start the third inning and Jeziorny followed with a double. After a fielder’s choice, Condon drove in three runs with her second homer of the day.

M.S.O.E. finally got on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the fourth but the home team responded with two in the bottom of the frame. Riddle led off with a homer and consecutive singles by Closson, Condon, and Risi brought in the other run. The visitors extended the game with one in the top of the fifth but a two-out RBI single by Jeziorny in the bottom of the inning brought in the clinching run.

The Foresters will play at Aurora University on Tuesday (March 28) and will begin Midwest Conference play with doubleheaders at Illinois College and Monmouth College next weekend (March 31-April 1).
