Foresters Split at Carthage behind Findeisen's One-Hitter
Sophomore comes within one out of second no-hitter of the year

Nancy Findeisen came within one strike of her second no-hitter this season.
KENOSHA, WI - The weather was cold Wednesday (March 27th) afternoon for the Forester softball team's doubleheader at Carthage College, and so were the bats on both sides. In game one, Lake Forest collected a 1-0 victory over the Lady Reds, who managed just one hit in the game. In the second game, the Foresters had just four base hits and lost 3-0.

The only run of the first game came in the top of the fifth. Shanon Joselane (Glendale Heights, IL/Glenbard East) reached second on a two-base error by the rightfielder to lead off the inning. The junior first baseman was still on second with two outs when freshman designated player Alissa Mildebrath (Carol Stream, IL/West Chicago) doubled to drive her in.

Nancy Findeisen (Beecher, IL/ Beecher) came within one strike of recording her second no-hitter of the season. The sophomore's bid was broken up by Carthage second baseman Rebecca Slye, who hit a soft liner into right field after fouling off a couple of two-strike Findeisen fastballs. The next Lady Red flew out to left to end the game. Opposing batters are now hitting a meager .119 this year against the Foresters' ace, who is 4-2 with a 0.52 earned run average.

Sophomore pitcher Carly Gilbert (Berthound, CO/Westminster) made her second start of the season for Lake Forest in game two. After Carthage scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first, Gilbert shut down the Lady Reds until a two-out double in the bottom of the sixth plated a pair of runs and gave the home team the 3-0 win.

Mildebrath, who played second base in game two, singled to open the top of the first and recorded her team-leading fifth double of the season in the third inning. She is 5-for-12 in four games since the Foresters returned from Florida and has raised her batting average to .316. For the season, Mildebrath also leads the team in hits (12) and total bases (17), and has not committed an error in 24 chances in the field.

After playing their first eight games of the year in Florida and a pair of doubleheaders on the road, the 6-6 Foresters will finally be at home this weekend (March 29-30th) when they host Benedictine University on Friday and North Central College on Saturday. Both opponents advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year, where North Central won the region and finished fifth in the nation.
