Mallory Norton
LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Lake Forest College softball team dropped a pair of contests to Carthage College at home Tuesday (March 27) afternoon. The Foresters fell 10-6 in the opener and 11-2 in five innings in game two. The team is now 4-8 on the season. The Lady Reds raised their record to 8-4.

Senior Kim Silvers (Walton, Ind./Lewis Cass), junior Christy Condon (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) and freshman Shelby Neill (Manitou Beach, Mich./Lenawee Christian) each had two base hits in game one. Condon hit her second home run of the season and 14th of her career, leaving her just one round-tripper shy of the Foresters’ career record.

Lake Forest took the early lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning and one in the second. Carthage pulled to within one with a run in the third and another in the fourth. The Foresters took a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning after scoring one in the fourth and surrendering one in the sixth. A seven-run Lady Red rally in the top of the seventh inning gave the visitors a 10-4 lead and Condon’s homer drove in Lake Forest’s final two runs in the bottom of the frame.

Freshman Mallory Norton (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) recorded two of the Foresters’ four base hits in game two, including a double and her first career home run.

Carthage scored four times in the top of the first inning and added one in both the second and third. The Foresters got on the scoreboard with one in the bottom of the third but gave up three in the top of the fourth. Lake Forest plated one more in the bottom of the fourth but was unable to match the Lady Reds’ two in the fifth and the game was called because of the nine-run lead.

The Foresters will play twice at Milwaukee School of Engineering at noon on Saturday (March 31) and will travel to Wheaton College for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader on Monday (April 2).
