WHEATON, Ill. - The Forester softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at Wheaton College Saturday (March 31) afternoon. Lake Forest was defeated 10-1 in six innings in the opener and 2-1 in game two and fell to 6-6 on the season. The Thunder raised their record to 11-5.

The Foresters plated their only run of game one in the first inning. After junior Hannah Michal (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake) led off the game with a single and stole second, freshman Nicole Moser (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) reached on an error, advanced to second on a fielder’s choice, and reached third on a passed ball. She then scored as senior Christy Condon (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) drove in her team-high 14th run of the season on a groundout.

Wheaton took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third inning and added three in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three more in the sixth to close out the victory.

Sophomore Mallory Norton (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) and senior Erin Ruberg (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) were each 2-for-2 in the contest.

Wheaton scored a pair of unearned runs in the first inning of game two. The leadoff hitter walked, stole second, and scored as the Thunder’s second hitter reached second on an error. The baserunner then stole third and scored on a wild pitch. Forester freshman Gretchen Galasek (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park and River Forest), who was making her first collegiate start, walked two more batters in the inning and one in the second before retiring the final 13 batters she faced in order. It was the 11th no-hitter in team history.

Lake Forest plated its only run of the game in the top of the fifth inning. With one out sophomore Sam Pinsonneault (Manchester, N.H./New Hampton) singled and advanced to second on an error. She went to third on a base hit and scored on an RBI-groundout by Michal, who also singled and doubled in the contest.

The Foresters begin Midwest Conference play on the road next weekend (April 5-6). Lake Forest will travel to Illinois College for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 Saturday afternoon and the opener of Sunday’s twinbill at Monmouth College is also scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
