Lake Forest Splits Doubleheader at Aurora
Furgerson wins pitching dual in second game

AURORA, IL - Aurora University and visiting Lake Forest College split a doubleheader on Friday (March 30th), with Aurora winning the first game, 5-4, and Lake Forest prevailing, 2-1, in the second contest.

It was the first game outside of the state of Florida for Lake Forest (5-5).

The Foresters took a 4-2 lead into the seventh inning of the first game, but gave up three unearned runs in the bottom half of the seventh and lost 5-4.

LF tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth when Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL/Granite City) led off the inning with a triple and Chris Laurine (Richmond, IL/Richmond-Burton) drove her in with a single.

Lake Forest took the lead in the sixth inning when an Aurora error led to a Kim Sponsel (San Diego, CA/Mira Mesa) two-out triple that scored two runs.

Kim Magee's (Lake Oswego, OR/Lake Oswego) homerun to lead off the seventh inning gave the Foresters a two-run cushion heading into the final half-inning.

Three Aurora hits and two Lake Forest errors later, AU had the come-from-behind victory.

Slater and Erin Valentour (Bolingbrook, IL/Downers Grove South) each added two hits for LF. Three Forester pitchers combined to surrender just one earned run. Two of Lake Forest's four runs were also unearned.

In the second game, Leigh Anne Furgerson (Carmel, IN/Westfield) went seven strong innings for the 2-1 win. She scattered seven hits, allowed one run, and struck out three with no walks.

The Foresters scored once in the third inning and once more in the seventh frame. Magee's double drove in Colette Coulombe (Chicago, Il/Mother Guerin) for the first run and Colleen Cotton (Crystal Lake, IL/Prairie Ridge) singled home Valentour in the seventh inning.

Lake Forest will be back in action tomorrow when they play at North Central College.
