Foresters Start 2003 With 6-1 Victory Over Mt. Union
Findeisen gets the win and two base hits

Nancy Findeisen pitched well and had two singles.
KISSIMMEE, FL - The Lake Forest College softball team, ranked #2 in the nation in the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association preseason poll, defeated Mount Union College 6-1 Sunday (March 9) in the first game of the season. Mount Union's record fell to 0-2. The Foresters' game against Marietta College scheduled for Sunday evening was rained out.

Junior pitcher Nancy Findeisen (Beecher, IL/ Beecher) led off the bottom of the first inning with a single. She advanced to second on a groundout, third on an error, and home on an errant pick-off throw by Mt. Union's catcher.

Lake Forest broke the game open with three runs in the bottom of the third. Freshman Melissa Wegner (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) pinch-hit for Findeisen with one out and reached on an error. Wegner went to second base on a wild pitch and advanced to third on sophomore catcher Justeen Streich's (Arlington Heights, IL/Hersey) single. After Streich stole second, sophomore shortstop Tina Koludrovic (Darien, IL/Downers Grove South) hit a ground ball to the shortstop, whose throw home to get Wegner was late. Streich advanced to third on the fielder's choice and scored on sophomore second baseman Alissa Mildebrath's (Carol Stream, IL/West Chicago) sacrifice fly to center. With two outs and Koludrovic on third, another Raider error allowed the third run of the inning.

Findeisen re-entered and allowed the only Mt. Union run of the game in the top of the fourth when a two-out double by Regina Murphy scored Ashley Hodisteller, who had reached first on a bunt single and second on a wild pitch before stealing third.

The Foresters plated two more runs in the bottom of the fifth when a single by Mildebrath scored Koludrovic from second and a double by senior third baseman Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL/Granite City) drove in Mildebrath.

Findeisen threw six innings and allowed just one run on four base hits. She struck out four batters and walked one. Freshman Ashley Closson (Murphysboro, IL/Murphysboro) came in and pitched a scoreless seventh.

Lake Forest will take on Baldwin-Wallace College (3:00 EST) and SUNY Cortland (4:50) on Monday (March 10). Tuesday's (March 11) opponents will be Muskingum College and the College of New Jersey.
