CLOSE LOSSES PLAGUE FORESTERS IN FLORIDA
The Lake Forest softball team, playing in their first games of the season and first action outdoors (practice or games), compiled a 2-6 record during their Spring Break trip to Florida.  The Foresters played two games a day for four straight days.  A season after dropping nine games by two or less runs, the Foresters again had trouble in close games and dropped three one-run games and a two-run contest.
After falling in their first three games, the Foresters picked up back-to-back wins over Heidelberg (8-2) and Haverford (5-4) before losing their final two games, each by one run.  Junior Mary Gerke and Erin Valentour provided the bulk of the offense versus Heidelberg.  Each drove in two runs and Gerke had two doubles and a run scored.  Additionally, senior Karen Siska had the Foresters second three-hit game of the season (Kate Parkinson went three for three in her college debut) and Kim Magee and Karyn Leniek each had one hit and scored one run.  Magee picked up the win by going four innings and surrending two earned runs.  Karie Poznanski came on in relief and pitched two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit.
Against Haverford, freshman Chris Laurine knocked home two runs with a two-out single in the third inning before Gerke and Parkinson had consecutive run-scoring singles in the fifth and final inning to give the Foresters the 5-4 victory.  Parkinson picked up the win by going the distance and allowing just one earned run.
