Melissa Wegner Earns First Team Academic All-District Honors
Senior will now appear on Academic All-American ballot

LAKE FOREST, IL - ESPN The Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the 2006 Academic All-District V College Division Softball Team on Thursday (May 11) and Lake Forest senior Melissa Wegner (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) was a First Team selection.

Wegner entered the final semester of her career with a 3.82 cumulative grade point average and will graduate on Saturday (May 13) with a double-major in Business and Environmental Studies. She will also earn her third Academic All-Midwest Conference award once the league announces this year’s honorees.

The MWC Champion Foresters are competing in the NCAA Regional tournament this weekend and Wegner leads the team with a .433 batting average, 32 runs scored, a .742 slugging percentage, and 15 stolen bases. The shortstop also ranks second on the squad with 42 base hits, 10 doubles, and six home runs.

Last weekend Wegner became the program’s all-time leader in runs scored (114) and she also ranks among the top five with 149 career hits, 28 doubles, 11 home runs, 220 total bases, and 35 stolen bases.

Wegner and other members of the eight First Team Academic All-District teams will appear on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American ballot next week.
