Four Foresters Make NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team

WAVERLY, IA - Lake Forest College had four softball players selected to the 15-member All-Regional Tournament Team Monday (May 12). Host and regional champion Wartburg College had seven players named to the squad. Top-seeded Gustavus Adolphus College had three and Clarke College had one.

Lake Forest defeated Wartburg 6-1 on Friday (May 9) and Gustavus Adolphus College 2-1 in nine innings on Saturday (May 10) to advance to the championship round of the double-elimination tournament. After Sunday's games were postponed until Monday because of bad weather, the Foresters were defeated 6-1 and 1-0 by Wartburg in the tourney's final two games.

Senior right fielder Megan Gibson (Brown Deer, WI/Brown Deer) batted .286 (4-for-14) in the tournament. She led off the bottom of the ninth inning against Gustavus Adolphus with a double and scored the winning run.

Junior pitcher Leigh Anne Furgerson (Carmel, IN/Westfield) allowed just two runs (one earned) in 15 innings of work in the tourney. After allowing a first-inning run to Gustavus Adolphus, she shut out the Gusties over the next eight innings to claim the victory. In the championship game, she surrendered just an unearned run and four base hits. Furgerson struck out six and did not issue a walk.

Sophomore designated player Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) batted .364 (4-for-11) over the weekend She also drew a pair of walks. Her home run in the first championship game against Wartburg College was her third of the season and the lone Forester run of the day.

Finally, sophomore shortstop Tina Koludrovic (Darien, IL/Downers Grove South) hit .357 (5-for-14) with a double. She drove in Gibson with the winning run against Gustavus Adolphus and had three base hits in the first championship game against Wartburg.
