LAKE FOREST, IL - Louisville Slugger and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association released its 2005 All-Great Lakes Region teams Thursday (May 12) and four Lake Forest College players made the list, including a four-time selection.

Sophomore outfielder Erin Watts (Evergreen Park, IL/Evergreen Park) was the Foresters’ lone first team honoree. She leads the team with a .398 batting average, 12 doubles, four triples, 71 total bases, a .628 slugging percentage, a .434 on-base percentage, and 19 stolen bases so far this season. She is also second on the squad with 29 runs scored and 29 runs batted in, one shy of the team leader and single-season school record.

Junior pitcher/first baseman Ashley Closson (Murphysboro, IL/Murphysboro) was named to the second team as a utility player. She is 10-5 this season and currently on a school record-tying nine-game winning streak. Closson’s earned run average stands at 2.01 and opponents are hitting just .224 against her this year. She is also Lake Forest’s second-leading hitter with a .364 batting average.

Senior second baseman Alissa Mildebrath (Carol Stream, IL/West Chicago) and junior shortstop Melissa Wegner (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) were each named to the third team. It was Mildebrath’s fourth all-region distinction after being named to the second team as a freshman and junior and the first team as a sophomore. The program’s all-time leader in base hits, home runs, and total bases is hitting .308 this season and is currently riding a nine-game hitting streak. Wegner is batting .331 and leads the squad with 32 runs scored, a school record-tying 30 RBI, 12 walks, and 10 sacrifice bunts. She is also tied for the team lead with four home runs and has at least one hit in each of her last eight contests.

Lake Forest captured its fourth consecutive Midwest Conference championship last weekend (May 6-7) and will travel to Muskingum College for this weekend’s (May 13-15) NCAA Regional Tournament. The Foresters are the five-team double-elimination tournament’s number three seed and will face number two Thomas More College at 1:00 Friday afternoon.
