LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Lake Forest College softball player Megan Harkins (Homewood, Ill./Homewood/Flossmoor) was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday (May 13) for her performance in four Midwest Conference Championship Tournament games the previous weekend (May 8-9).

Harkins, a freshman second baseman and the team’s leadoff hitter, batted .429 (6-for-14) on the weekend and was the only Forester with a base hit in each of the four contests. She scored three runs and drove in a team-high seven on the weekend.

Harkins singled in a run and later scored during a 3-run fourth inning in Saturday’s 6-5 victory over Ripon College. Her bases-loaded single plated both of Lake Forest’s runs in a 4-2 loss to St. Norbert College later in the day. She had both of the home team’s base hits in the contest.

On Sunday Harkins led off a 10-0 triumph over Monmouth College with a base hit and then belted a three-run home run later in the inning. It was the first round-tripper of her career. She also singled in a run in the final game of the season, a 3-2 loss to St. Norbert.

Harkins led the Foresters with 35 runs and 19 stolen bases while batting .351 on the year.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
