POZNANSKY NAMED MOST VALUABLE FOR LAKE FOREST SOFTBALL TEAM

Lake Forest College senior pitcher Cari Poznansky (Morton Grove, IL/Maine East High School) was named the team's Most Valuable Player, while sophomore Nikki Thompson (Gurnee, IL/Warren H.S.) was tabbed as the Most Improved Player.

Poznansky, the team's top pitcher, compiled a 7-8 mark and recorded 2 saves on the season. She appeared in 19 games with 16 starts and 14 complete games. Poznansky had a 2.30 earned run average. During her 103-plus innings, she allowed 113 hits, 63 runs, 34 earned runs, struck out 50, and walked 33. She led the team in appearances, complete games, shutouts, wins, saves, earned run average, strikeouts, and innings pitched.

At the plate, Poznansky had a .200 batting average (9 hits in 45 at bats). She recorded 5 runs scored, 4 runs batted in, 1 double, 2 walks, and 3 sacrifice hits. In the field she had an outstanding .958 fielding percentage.

Thompson, an outfielder, appeared in 16 games and recorded a .280 batting average (7 hits in 25 at bats). She scored 5 runs and drove in 1 run. She also had 1 double, 1 triple, and 5 sacrifice hits. In the field, she had 19 putouts with just 3 errors (.864 fielding percentage).

Lake Forest finished the 2000 season with a 15-19 overall record and secured a second place finish in the MWC South Division. The team advanced to the school's first MWC Tournament since 1991.
