KIM MAGEE NAMED MWC PLAYER OF THE YEAR; TWO OTHERS HONORED

Lake Forest College junior left fielder Kim Magee (Lake Oswego, OR/Lake Oswego H.S.) was one of three Foresters named to the All-Midwest Conference South Division Softball First Team and was honored as the MWC South Division Co-Player of the Year. Magee was joined on the First Team by junior shortstop Karla Gribble (Mineral Point, WI/Mineral Point H.S.) and sophomore pitcher Chris Laurine (Richmond, IL/Richmond Burton H.S.).

Magee led the MWC with a .536 batting average (15 for 28) and 7 stolen bases during the 8-game season. She also added 13 runs scored, 4 doubles, and 5 runs batted in. Magee, also a First Team All-Conference selection in 1999, shared the Player of the Year award with Jody Schaill of Monmouth (IL) College.

Gribble, one of the league's top defensive shortstops with a .955 fielding percentage, hit .308 (8 for 26) in MWC play. She added 5 runs scored, 5 runs batted in, and 4 sacrifices.

Laurine compiled a 3.08 earned run average with a 3-1 record in MWC play. Also an adept hitter, she led the league with 14 runs batted in, was eighth with a .440 batting average (11 for 25), and tied for second with 2 home runs.

The trio helped the Foresters to a 15-19 overall record and a 5-3 mark in MWC play. With their second place South Division finish, Lake Forest qualified for the four-team MWC Championship Tournament for the first time since 1991. The team was eliminated in two games at the Conference Tournament.
