Melissa Wegner Earns ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Honors
2006 graduate named to Third Team in the College Division

LAKE FOREST, IL - ESPN The Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released the 2006 Academic All-American Softball Teams on Wednesday (May 31) and recent Lake Forest College graduate Melissa Wegner (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) was a Third Team selection in the College Division.

Wegner received her diploma on May 13 with a 3.83 cumulative grade point average and a double-major in Business and Environmental Studies. She had been named First Team Academic All-District earlier in the month and will earn her third Academic All-Midwest Conference award when the league announces the honorees from the spring season.

Wegner was named MWC South Division Position Player of the Year after helping lead the 2006 Foresters to a 24-15 overall record, their fifth consecutive Midwest Conference championship, and a fifth straight berth in the NCAA Tournament. The team captain led the squad with a .413 batting average, 32 runs scored, a .461 on base percentage, and 15 stolen bases. She also ranked second on the team in doubles, home runs, and slugging percentage.

Lake Forest posted a 103-56-1 record over the last four seasons and she is the program’s all-time leader with 114 career runs scored. She also ranks among the top five in team history with 150 base hits, 28 doubles, 11 home runs, 221 total bases, 21 sacrifice bunts, and 35 stolen bases in her career.

She is the first Academic All-American in the program’s history.
