FORESTER SOFTBALL TEAM PREPARES FOR CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

They may have snuck in the through the back door, but, as one of the four teams vying for the Midwest Conference title this weekend in Monmouth, Illinois, the Lake Forest softball team is eager for the school's first trip to the conference tournament since 1991.

After concluding their season one week ahead of the rest of the MWC South, the Foresters found themselves on the outside looking in at the rest of the tournament field with their 5-3 conference mark. But Grinnell dropped three of their final four games, which allowed Lake Forest to claim the South Division's final playoff spot. Lake Forest will compete as the division's number two seed, while Monmouth (18-13, 8-0) will host the tourney as the South's top seed. The North Division will be represented by Ripon (21-12, 6-2), the number one seed, and Carroll (13-15, 6-2), the two seed.

Lake Forest and Ripon will kick-off the tournament on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Monmouth and Carroll will square off in the second game at 12:00 p.m. The losers of the first two games will play at 2:00 p.m. and the winners at 4:00 p.m. to round out play on the first day. It will take two to three games on Saturday to determine the league's champion.

The Foresters bring a 15-17 overall record into the tournament. Their three league losses include two one-run losses at Monmouth and combine to total just five runs.
